Sign Central, Our proud history
The company originated in Hastings as Spurdle Bros in 1931. With the inclusion of long-time employee Jim Moran, The name then changed to Spurdle & Moran Signs in 1960.
Two lads, Brent Cullen and Ross McKee, began their apprenticeship in 1968. On retirement of Gordon Spurdle in 1973,Jim, Brent and Ross continued the business as SM Signs, moving the business to Queen St.
In 1999, Ian Clarke from Clarke Signs amalgamated with SM Signs, going into business with Brent and continued on as CSM Signs, still employing Ross, and supposedly retired Jim Moran.
After 17 Years with CSM Signs Ian decided it was time to take a step back and continue onpart time while pursuing other interests. At this time, Sam took the opportunity to go into business with his father and keep the business in the family. Jim has finally retired at the age of 100 and a half.
In July of 2018 Sam and Brent decided to rename the business to Sign Central to reflect the changing of the business structure to the modern sign shop that can really do it all.
